Approach to Excellence- Primary Document

Management Cornerstones

The “Approach to Excellence” foundation has four measurable cornerstones.

Focus: When management is focused on four foundation cornerstones, financial growth is achieved. Accountability for each cornerstone initiates a gradual cultural shift. Activities cease to be events and distractions create less dysfunction.

Less is more: Introduction of additional cornerstones dilutes the ability of management to execute. When the team is achieving, positive perception and financial objectives are realized.

Perception

Fear: Some companies are apprehensive of learning about customer and employee perception. Perception ratings essentially define the trust others have of the organization. Greater trust delivers more customer purchases, while distrust indicates the customer is managing risk.

Culture: Employee perception defines culture. Objective focused cultures flourish in an environment of positive perception. Activity based cultures tend to place less emphasis on perception.

Performance: When companies connect perception ratings and management objectives as an indicator of leadership, performance improves. Discovery of perception challenges can sometimes be painful in the beginning. Transparency illuminates the status quo.

Leadership: The illusion of success is eliminated when the company is acutely connected to perception. Transformation leadership utilizes perception to effectively mentor employee success.

Communication

Learning: Every employee learns, retains, and presents information differently. “Approach to Excellence,” teaches quality communication skills to management, who can then facilitate employee success and objective achievement. As a result, employee communication to the customer becomes solution based.

Performance: Subjective communication by management without factual evidence is a key source of poor employee perception. Management tends to make communication decisions based on toxic elements of the organization. Clear communication skills equip employees and management to understand expectations.

Achievement: Effective communication facilitates the potential of a culturally diverse workforce to achieve greater outcomes.

Systems

Performance:Quality, self-managed employees simply deliver greater customer perception with less drama in a systems environment. The systems approach provides a logical methodology to execute best business practices with large or small employee groups.

Customer value: Extending the value of company systems to customers creates improved perception. Best business practices outlined below provide transparency, accountability, and positive perception.

Platform systems in “Approach to Excellence”

  1. Perception assessments provide ratings
  2. Human resource expectations improve hiring practices
  3. Objective, strategy, and tactical planning diminish activity based functionality
  4. Management, sales, and marketing processes develop leadership
  5. Performance metrics and counseling

Objective Achievement

Definition: Objectives are well-defined goals. Activities achieve objectives. Organizations, managers, and employees sometimes are so focused on activities they achieve fewer objectives. This confusion leads to poor perception.

Focus: Objective based companies focus on profitable “A” level accounts and solutions. These accounts while sometimes challenging, produce long- term benefits. Activity or task-based organizations tend to gravitate toward accounts and solutions, which are less sustainable or profitable, but easy.

Measurement: Companies that effectively measure and enforce objective achievement set the stage for positive perception.

Employee Ratio: Quality organizations retain significant numbers of employees who consistently achieve objective. Less developed companies often have the 80/20 rule in effect, which is, eighty percent of objectives are consistently achieved by twenty percent of the employees. Clearly, the objective is to reverse this ratio.
